DJI MAVIC PRO -- Is it still worth it?

DJI Mavic pro is One of the beautiful and powerful drone created by DJI. It is a perfect compact drone for both beginners and pro users. With its easy and impressive features, one can get great experience and satisfaction with photography. DJI has also launched its successor upgraded drone model called DJI Mavic 2 Pro and Zoom. So is it worth it to buy DJI Mavic Pro in 2019?? Let’s find out!

Features & Specifications:

DJI Mavic Pro is a small drone with 3 axis stabilization. It has 734gm weight, 4K capable camera with so many filters and options to choose. Operating frequency of the drone is FCC: 2.4-2.4835GHz; 5.150-5.250 GHz; 5.725-5.850 GHz, CE: 2.4-2.4835GHz; 5.725-5.850 GHz, SRRC: 2.4-2.4835 GHz;5.725-5.850 GHz.

The drone is designed to fold to the size of a water bottle!! This drone is small enough which will not take too much space in your bag. Or depending on the space, it could even be small enough to fit in your pocket!!! After folding, drone size becomes 83mm x 83mm x 198mm.

The Mavic Pro comes with Forward and Downward Vision System, GPS for better flight performance. It has 27 minutes of flight time (depends on wind). It supports Lightning, Micro USB(Type-B), USB(Type-C) for mobile connectivity.

The camera is small but fairly powerful. It stays true to its 4K capabilities. Its 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor can capture 12MP stills in JPEG or DNG RAW format, as well as video at a variety of resolutions and frame rates: 4K at 30fps or 1080p at up to 96fps.

The shutter speed is 8s-1/8000s which is really great on its own. For still photography there are some options to choose like EV Bias, Interval, Single Shoot, Burst Shooting at 3/5/7 Frames Rate, Auto Exposure Bracketing, AEB at 3/5 bracketed frames per 0.7, etc.

It’s mounted on a tiny motorized gimbal that, in combination with the drone’s suite of sensors, is able to make near-instant adjustments to keep itself level at all times. You can also set it to a POV mode, which tilts and turns it along with the drone.

There are four other sensors on board. They’re to aid in-flight stability and safety. It includes 1/2.3” (CMOS), Effective pixels:12.35 M (Total pixels:12.71M). This sensor pair faces frontwards, detecting obstacles in a forward arc and preventing the drone from hitting objects. It’ll stop moving if it comes within a few feet of anything solid. But only when it’s in front or downward. The obstacle detection won’t prevent a crash if the Mavic moves backward or sideways into a tree, lamppost or neighbor’s window. So beware!

Now, DJI has added all three direction sensors to it’s New DJI MAVIC AIR.

Durability & Build Quality:

This drone has a hinge system which helps with the safety of the drone. It allows the drone to fold itself up into a compact size. You don’t even need to remove propellers. You can fold it too.

Where durability is concerned, users will never have to worry about destructive crash landing, crashing against objects or even rains!! Check out this users video who tested drone in EXTREME conditions:

If you still do crash your drone, the best way to get it back is using the GPS information stored on the DJI GO App. Click on the map, zoom in to where the last signal was sent from, then head over and start searching. It’s crazy how accurate it is.

Battery, Range & Flight Time:

The battery comes with a capacity of 3830 mAh, a voltage of 11.4 and is a LiPo 3S type. This gives drone 21-27 minutes of flight time. Charging temperature varies between 41° to 104° F ( 5° to 40° C ).

The new DJI OcuSync transmission system allows the Mavic Pro to transmit live HD video streaming at 1080p / 720p from a safe distance of up to 4.3 miles (7 kilometers).

Should You buy DJI Mavic Pro?

Do you want a tiny flying 4K camera that doesn’t compromise on battery life, flying ability, and image quality -- all the while maintaining a relatively affordable price tag? If so, the Mavic Pro is the best choice!!! Even in 2019, it is one of the best drones for photographers and travelers.
