SSC North America is America’s first hypercar company, founded in 1998 by owner Jerod Shelby with just 24 employees. The company has made remarkable cars. Now with the Tuatara hypercar, SSC North America has reclaimed its coveted title of “Fastest Production Vehicle in the world”.
This Guinness World Record was carried out at State Route 160, an 11.26 km long stretch in Nevada, Las Vegas. Tuatara hypercar was driven by professional racing driver Oliver Webb.

Shelby’s supercar SSC Tuatara beats Koenigsegg Agera, Bugatti Chiron by clocking a top speed of 331.15 mph (532.93 kmph), and an average speed of 316.11 mph (508.7 kmph). Koenigsegg Agera has record of 285 mph (458 kmph) while Bugatti Chiron has record of 300 mph (482.80 kmph).

Unlike the previous record holder, the SSC Tuatara achieved the average speed in two opposite-direction passes. In addition to the “Fastest Production Vehicle” record, the SSC Tuatara broke the world records for:
“Fastest Flying Mile on a Public Road” at 313.12 mph (503.92 km/h)
“Fastest Flying Kilometer on a Public Road” at 321.35 mph (517.16 km/h)
“Highest Speed Achieved on a Public Road” at 331.15 mph (532.93 km/h)
In 2007, SSC won the fastest production vehicle award for the SSC Ultimate Aero car when it beat Bugatti Veyron’s record.
Here are some things to know about this car. SSC Tuatara features a bespoke 5.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine which gives 1,750 hp output on E85. Whereas it gives 1,350 hp output on 91 octane fuel. The car has 0.279 coefficients of drag.
While driving and breaking this record, the car ran on its stock nitrogen-filled Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.
The body of Tuatara is made up of carbon fiber. The height of the car is just 42 inches. This hypercar’s weight is around 2,750 pounds. The car’s design includes small wings, smooth curves in the back and front side, and automatic rear spoilers which help in better aerodynamics.
The car has gull-wing doors. The interior of the car is beautiful. It has a digital instrument cluster and a vertically oriented touchscreen interface that makes up the center console.

Tuatara’s performance reflects the dedication and focus with which they pursued this achievement. America’s new claim to victory in the ‘land-based space race’ is going to be tough to beat.
The base price of the SSC Tuatara is around $1.9 million. There will be a production of only 100 Tuatara hypercars to sell to customers.
