Nvidia’s mid-range RTX 2060 is a whole New Beast

Finally, Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 2060 is here with a lot of potential inside it. Nvidia RTX 2060 comes with next-generation features like real-time ray tracing. While mid-range RTX 2070 goes around $500 and RTX 2080 up to $1199, the all-new GeForce RTX 2060 costs much less. Its price is $349 only. It is slightly pricier than its predecessor, but for its performance and features, it is worth buying.

With every new generation of Graphics cards, Nvidia gives that one card that has massive power and affordable price. The previous time it was GTX 1070 and this time it is RTX 2060.

Built on their new Turing architecture, RTX GPUs were the biggest update to Nvidia’s GPU architecture in at least half a decade, leaving almost no part of Nvidia’s architecture untouched.

Pricing and Availability:

Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 comes at about $349 (£270, AU$490) price. From January 15, it will be available worldwide at online and offline stores.

Nvidia RTX 2060 gives you everything that $499 RTX 2070 offers, just a bit less of each. But the drop from the RTX 2070 to the RTX 2060 is more like the difference between the GTX 1070 Ti and GTX 1070, rather than the 1070 and 1060. But RTX 2060 puts AMD’s $399 (£379, AU$679) Radeon RX Vega 56, and $279 (£249, AU$425) XFX Radeon RX 590 Fatboy in their place.

Hardware, Specifications, and Features:

RTX 2060 features AI gaming and Real-Time Ray Tracing. Nvidia RTX 2060 has the latest 6GB VRAM of 14Gbps GDDR6 video memory and a new Turing TU106 GPU. It sports 1920 CUDA cores. The base clock speed of RTX 2060 is 1365MHz, but the boost clock is up a bit to 1680MHz. It gives smooth 1440p results and even playable 4K gaming at 30fps.

RTX 2060 Performance:

Nvidia RTX 2060 gives a great performance and even beats the last generation Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 graphics card. RTX 2060 gives 60fps in Full HD gaming performance at 1920×1080, and excellent high-setting performance at 2560×1440.

GeForce RTX 2060 offers an in-game experience that beats the GTX 1070 Ti and is on average 60% faster than the prior-generation GTX 1060. Furthermore, the RTX 2060 features the same AI and Ray Tracing technology as the RTX 2080 Ti, 2080, and 2070.

Despite having the smallest complement of RT and Tensor Cores in the Turing family thus far, the RTX 2060 can still pull off all of the Turing architecture’s new tricks including DLSS and ray tracing. This GPU plays Battlefield V at a consistent 70-75fps with the game running at 1080p with Ultra quality settings and ray tracing.

Summary:

The Nvidia RTX 2060 is slightly pricier, but it is better than the GTX 1060 as well as the GTX 1070 and GTX 1070 Ti. It has the potential for future gaming and more capability.

This graphics card can even give users a taste of the new ray-tracing feature that Nvidia is pushing in their products. If you want powerful performance, and Ray-Tracing, and have a budget, the RTX 2060 is worth it.

Is the RTX 2060 good in 2024?

The RTX 2060 can still handle many modern games at 1080p with high settings. However, for demanding AAA titles or higher resolutions, newer cards like RTX 4090 may be better.

How much VRAM does the RTX 2060 have?

The original RTX 2060 has 6GB of GDDR6 VRAM. A later revision, the RTX 2060 12GB, offers increased memory capacity.

Is the RTX 2060 good for ray tracing?

The RTX 2060 can enable ray tracing, but performance may be lower, especially at higher resolutions. DLSS can help boost frame rates in some games with ray tracing.

What is the difference between RTX 2060 and RTX 3060?

The RTX 3060 is a newer generation card, more VRAM with better overall performance, and improved ray tracing capabilities.

What CPU goes well with the RTX 2060?

An Intel Core i5-10400 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 are good mid-range CPUs that would pair well with the RTX 2060 for 1080p gaming.
