Android 10 was also known as Android Q. But Google has decided to stop giving alphabetical dessert names to Android Updates. So after Android Pie, we are getting the next version – Android 10.
So what’s new in Android 10? There are so many new features in it. Google has added dark mode, new gesture navigation, focus mode, privacy mode, and many more features for you. Let’s check out these new features of Android 10 in detail.
Android 10 Features:
1. Dark Mode
You are getting the Dark Mode (Dark Theme) option in Android 10. Dark Mode swaps the interface colors for darker tones making it easier on your eyes when using your phone in low lighting.
It is limited to a few menus, drawers, Goole Search, Call Log, and a few apps. You can activate dark mode from the notification panel. You can switch between a light theme or dark mode by a quick setting button to turn on/off dark mode from the notification panel.
You can also activate dark mode by using the battery-saver option. The battery saver option will turn on dark mode and also save your battery. This option is currently available for Android 9 too.
Dark Mode is very useful for OLED display smartphones. As the screen becomes dark, the pixels of the OLED screen are turned off. This is beneficial for the battery life.
2. New Gesture Navigation
Android 10 has a super smooth, full-screen gesture system. Check out the list below to learn how to use these new navigation gestures in Android 10.
- Swipe up from the home screen to open the app drawer.
- Swipe up from the bar at the bottom when in an app to go home.
- Swipe up and hold to open the Recent Apps menu.

- Swipe diagonally in from one of the bottom two corners to launch Google Assistant.
- Swipe in from the left or right edge to go back.
The general back button is gone. This might be frustrating at the beginning, but you will have to get to use these new gestures. Smartphone companies might keep the back button with their own UI for users.
3. Smart Reply
A Smart Reply is a tool from Google which uses machine learning. It gives or suggests predictive responses and actions to emails and texts. Now, this tool will be available on Android 10.
Now you don’t need to write replies, instead, you just have to select replies suggested by the smart tool. You can quickly respond to texts and emails with these options. This tool also suggests other actions like booking, opening maps, directions, calls, and calendars.
For Example, if a friend asks you out to dinner, your phone will suggest you text “Okay”. Then, it’ll also pull up directions right in Google Maps.
4. Live Captions
The Live Caption feature applies captions on videos and audio in real time. You do not need an internet connection, or WiFi anymore for captions. This feature applies data from its own speech recognition and NLP (Neuro-linguistic programming) data.
5. Bubbles
Bubbles is another great feature of Android 10 software. Do you use Facebook Messenger’s chat head? Bubbles work just like that. The apps will be minimized in the circular head on the screen. So now you can minimize, open, and use more apps like that.
6. Better Security and Data Transparency
In Android 10, Now you can manage all of your privacy settings from one place. You can control the Web & App Activity, Location History, and Ad Settings of a particular app.
You can control the location, photos, camera, and contact accessibility of the app. You’ll also get a reminder when apps are accessing your location, camera, and contacts which will help you always to stay in control of the data being accessed on your phone.
Now you can also decide what data is stored, like your Web & App Activity. You can also control how long it is stored.
In Android 10, you’ll get faster regular security updates directly from the Google Play store. Updates will be available in the Google Play store similar to regular app updates. This will be very useful to keep your phone updated.
7. Focus Mode
